There are two families of gods in Norse mythology: Vanir and Aesir. The Vanir line is widely regarded as the gods of fertility, while the Aesir line is known as the warrior gods. Freyr is the phallic deity of the Vanir family, a god of harvest, vegetation, peace, fertility, wealth and joy. Freyr is also strongly associated with the sun, which gives us a good idea of its importance. In many cultures, the sun gods are at the top of their pantheons. Freyr is described in old books as the first among the gods when it comes to reputation.
